Welcome back for my 10th Stitch Fix unveiling. This month I decided to continue the “Fall Trends” theme from last month. I didn’t have any specific needs, but I did request a pendant necklace (and got a great one) this time.
If you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, it is an online personal styling service that sends you 5 hand-picked clothing and/or accessory items each time you request a “Fix”. You pay a $20 styling fee, but if you end up keeping anything from the Fix, the $20 gets applied to that. It’s so easy to sign up, just go online, fill out your sizes, style preference and budget. You can also link a Pinterest board to your account so that the stylist can get a better sense for your tastes. Shipping is always free and you return anything you do not want to keep in a handy return bag they provide.

It had started to feel a bit more like Fall here in San Diego, but it just so happened that we were having a triple digit heat wave when my Fix arrived. Regardless, I still love the fall season for fashion.
Lemon Tart Etseri Faux Suede Vest – XS ($88)
I’m starting off with the most “trendy” piece I received. This is a faux suede, super-long vest. When I first saw it, my initial thought was “What the hell?!” Then I gave some thought to what it might look good with. The clean, tan color definitely goes well with the navy and white striped top I selected. I also decided to pair it with my dark Mavi skinny jeans in order to keep the silhouette long and lean. And of course my new brown booties from my September Fix were the obvious footwear choice!
You can wear it buttoned or unbutton it to be a bit more casual…
Though it started growing on me and probably would have been an excellent item to wear to the Rodeo that was just last weekend, I can’t imagine myself wearing it often enough to justify the price. I look at most of my potential purchases based on what their “cost per wear” might be. Even if something is more expensive, if I am going to get a lot of use out of it, it would still make sense. This one does not.
41Hawthorn Meera Split Neck Top – XS ($54)
I LOVE the versatility of an animal print top. This cheetah print is so fun! Sleeveless is always a winner for me given our climate and the v-neck is a super-flattering cut. You’ll see that I wore this a couple different ways, but in the picture below I tucked it into a denim pencil skirt and accented the black in the cheetah print with my black peep-toe booties.
I can envision wearing this with many staples of my existing wardrobe.
Romolo Munroe Feather Pendant Necklace ($28)
Kaley honored my request for a pendant necklace (and she clearly paid attention to examples I had saved to my Pinterest board). I had pinned a fairly similar necklace that also had a feather pendant.
You can’t see the detail all that well in the picture, but the chain also has little ball studs, so it gives it a bit more interest. Into my slowly but surely expanding jewelry collection this goes!
Liverpool Anita Skinny Pant – 2 ($78)
I received the exact same pants in last month’s Fix but in an Olive color. I had mentioned that I liked the style of them but might want a different color. I had suggested gray. Kaley sent them to me in this lovely burgundy color.
Apologies for the shadows in this picture. As I mentioned, it was a HOT day and I was trying to stay in the shade for the pictures! These pants are very comfortable and would also look great in tall boots (no crazy tucking needed). As you can see, I also wore the cheetah print top with them, this time not tucked in.
See, easy to squat in these pants without them getting all bunched up! My 2.5 year old daughter was out with us and decided to hand me these leaves, so I thought why not use them as props in my fall-themed photo shoot? 🙂 As much as I like these pants, I already have a pair of red skinny jeans that are just too close in style to these. Kaley, maybe they have these in gray or black and third time will be a charm!
THML Greer Faux Leather Detail Knit Dress – S ($64)
When I saw this dress coming (as I always peek in the Stitch Fix app), I was really interested. The three-quarter length sleeves and leather detail actually make it a great winter option here. So I thought about how I would style it for winter. Definitely black boots! These boots are one of my favorites – I purchased them about 10 years ago on a trip to Dublin, Ireland. They are still holding up! I also added the necklace I received in my June Fix.
Cute, right? And what better to layer over this than my black faux leather motorcycle jacket.
The pictures look really cute, but I’ll let you in on two secrets:
- The material of this dress was very heavy, making it extremely hot. That would probably be a good thing in most other cities, but not here.
- It was evident when I pulled this dress out of the box that it was going to be too large. I have kept my size setting for dresses at Small instead of XS because I have actually received and kept 2 dresses where that seemed to work. But for this one, the Small was really big.
Knowing that Stitch Fix now has a great feature at checkout that lets you exchange an item for a different size, I decided to “adjust” the dress so that I could see how it might look in the XS (as it looked like a sack of potatoes in the Small). So I did what probably happens in many professional photo shoots, I pinned the back of the dress with some clips. Ok, they probably don’t use clips that are meant for potato chip bags in professional photo shoots, but you get the idea! Here’s my “behind the scenes” photo.
I might have gone for the exchange if it weren’t for the material making me too hot.
So, what did you think of this month’s box? Would you have kept the vest or the dress? I could totally see my mom rocking that vest as it’s a bit more her style. Now that she and my dad are living with us (check out my Multi-Generational Living posts), she was able to try the vest on. Maybe I should sign her up for Stitch Fix and beg them to send her the vest in her size!
And just as a heads up, next month I’m asking for a Hawaii vacation themed box, so stay tuned for some hopefully fun tropical/resort styles! If you sign up for my newsletter, you’ll never miss out on a new review!
